Our Tips and Tricks for Planning a Party.

Organising an event can be really stressful, especially if you’ve never done it before. Choosing who to invite, where to go, what date to choose can all be too much, which is why we thought we’d try and share just a few things we’ve picked up over the years.

Buffets.

Try not to have the buffet too late at your event, as people won’t normally start to dance until after the buffet has finished. We tend to recommend 9pm as the latest time for the buffet, and roughly 30minutes for people to eat and chat. It’s also normally a good idea to do any speeches or special dances straight after the buffet as stopping people from dancing not long after they have just got up always seems to prevent people from getting back up.

Surprise Parties.

First of all make sure everyone knows its a surprise, including us! Secondly everyone always seems to want to turn off all the lights and music, but if you do this, and the person who’s surprise party it is walks in they know before they get in, so bare that in mind, we can always be ready with “Happy Birthday” to play instantly as they walk in or any other special song. That way you get to see their reaction as soon as they walk through the door.

Fancy Dress Parties.

These are always really good fun, but make sure the majority of your guests are actually up for it, because if you don’t and only a few people turn up in outfits its normally quite embarrassing for them.

18th Birthday Parties.

When organising these please be aware of venues restrictions, as many places do not allow these parties. Also please be mindful of special requirements such as doormen.

The Venue.

When you’re deciding where to have your event, ensure the room you choose can accommodate everyone you want to invite, and at the same time make sure it’s not too big as this can make it very difficult to get a good atmosphere in the room.

Setting Up/Packing Up.

On average (dependent on venue) it takes us around 30-45 minutes to set up/pack up, so try and ensure there’s enough time for us to get in and get set up before your guests get there, especially if it’s a surprise party. Also bear in mind that if we need to vacate the venue by a certain time, we need to have enough time to pack up. We generally do not like to leave our kit overnight anywhere.

Requests.

If there’s a specific track or tracks you want playing its a good idea to let us know as soon as you can, preferably before the event so we can ensure that we have them for your party. Just as importantly if there’s any tracks or artists you do not want playing please also make us aware of this prior to the event. During the night we will happily take requests from quests either by them coming to see us or by texting us on the night.

Children.

Of course you going to want the younger members of your family at you’re event to share your memories with you, but please make sure they are kept under control. We know they’re going to want to dance and spin around on the dance floor, ruining the knees in that brand new pair of trousers, but the stage area or area which we have set up in can be very dangerous for children with dangling wires and tripods.
